Pushing the line in Main Building..

Hey girls and boys,

It’s me again for my daily blog on the final week building up to show day. Honestly the rehearsal today was a success doing a full run-through of the performance (minus sound, lighting & AV cues), bringing down our original running time of 1 hour 9 minutes to 57 minutes.

Sadly our rehearsal today was disturbed several times by members of staff saying we were being too loud, which in my eyes the actors were not at all loud. But I guess that’s life. rehearsing in rooms which aren’t designed for drama students. Slight rant over :/

Back on topic;

As I mentioned yesterday in my previous blog, many things have changed within the company especially with the script. Alex’s script was seen as a more naturalistic play. But as a group, with a focus from the actor’s point of views the script didn’t quite fit the feeling our theatre company want to show to the audience. Considering I’d already created my technical prompt script, this news of changes wasn’t my idea of fun. However the new changes that was created as a group actually work much better. So similar to films that were created in the late 60’s/ 70’s were the ending scene was actually the beginning. Thinking of the film Quadrophenia. Our new version of “Suitcases in the Hallway” starts from scene 4 in to scene 1 and so on…

Here’s some photos I forgot to add in yesterday’s blog post;

I thought you all may want to see what I get to see when I’m up in the technical box, being the great stage manager that I am. Well i’m trying to be. I still have a long way to go to being a pro :’).

Well there’s nothing else to report today so I’m going to love and leave you girls and boys until tomorrow.

Technical Rehearsal!

Hello girls and boys,

It’s been awhile seen my last post, hope everyone’s alright ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well everything has been a bit crazy recently with our company, but that’s a working progress for you. Yesterday we had our first ever technical rehearsal on the wonderful Lincoln Performing Arts Centre stage. It was a great opportunity for the cast to get a real feel for the stage with all the set in the right position. From a stage manager’s point of view the tech ran rather smoothly, which may I add i’m not used to. But glad it did as it didn’t make me as stressed as it could of done.

I was able to with the help of our script writer Alex,I was able to create a QLab file on Alex’s Mac to create all our sound cues before we were able to get into the auditorium .By having this done in preparation for the tech it made it easier and setting up didn’t take as long as anticipated. Lighting and inputting AV video into the performance was pretty much straight forward. Sara (our amazing director) seemed happy with the lighting designed that was created to show nighttime and daytime. All in all setting everything up took just under an hour which for me made me a happy little peach ๐Ÿ™‚ yes I did say peach. In total we had three hours to attempt a cue to cue and a full run through on the stage.

However on refection on this the plan i’d created with Sara didn’t quite run to plan, which makes this friday’s full day rehearsal longer. As we’ll have to do a cue to cue and several run throughs before our actual show day. As a company we were able to re-work on our bridge scenes with the music and the amount of space the actors have to work with onstage.

Right i’ve got to get back to rehearsals, i’ll post again tonight informing you wonderful people how the rehearsal went.

The life of a stage manager

Hello Guys and Girls!

So this is my first blog so here it goes;

What has happened so far in the world of the “Stage Manager ” in Pushing Boundaries Theatre Company?

So far i’ve made a start on the ‘book’ by getting all the correct information that is needed with a stage manager. I’ve made a start ย with designing the stage with Sara our director (AKA Boss Lady). She has discussed her vision for “Suitcases in the hallway” with me in the previous weeks of what was physically doable on the stage. We drew up a brief design to show Darren (stage manager of Lincoln Performing Arts Centre) last week in our first proper production meeting. Originally we wanted to use some form of projection in the performance, however on reflection today in a meeting I’ve had with Sara. We both agreed that if we scrapped the idea of a screen at the back of the stage and use a soft flat instead behind the rostrum blocks (Which we are using to represent the kitchen). We hope to attach a clock onto the flat to give the effect of time going slow to the performers.

Things that are going to happen in the next few weeks:

Over the easter holidays my tasks for the theatre company are the following points;

  • Source out sound effects required for the performances.
  • Make a start on the tech script
  • Design two stage design drawings for the stage manager’s book.

Till next time my lovelies..
